Becoming an Associate CFDT
Associate CFDTs have demonstrated the knowledge and technical expertise necessary to proficiently apply cognitive function development theory and therapeutic activities as presented within the CFDI Therapeutic Framework to clients one-to-one and in small groups within a clinical setting for the measurable improvement of client mental health.
Training & Examination
Upon completing the online coursework, candidates will be eligible to sit for the written certification exam. The exam consists of 100 multiple choice and true/false questions based on the online manual and must be completed within a two-hour block. Failure to achieve a passing score of 80% or higher may require the candidate to retake the online portion of the Introduction to CFDT course. Upon passing the written exam, candidates will be recognized by the CFDI as Probationary Associate CFDTs.
Probationary Period
Probationary ACFDTs must complete practicum clinical experience under the direct consultation of a certified or master CFDT. Upon completing the requisite hours, the Probationary ACFDT will be recognized as a Provisional ACFDT.
Provisional Credential
Provisional CFDT credentialing is valid for one calendar year. All Provisional ACFDTs shall complete and document the following field experience requirements:
Full Associate Credential
Provisional ACFDTs, upon submitting acceptable documentation of the above field experience requirements within one year, shall be recognized as credentialled ACFDTs. Individuals not fulfilling the field experience requirements or failing to provide acceptable documentation within one year may renew their Provisional ACFDT status for another year.
Credential Renewal
The CFDT credential may be renewed annually with documentation of the following: Supervisor’s letter attesting to the maintenance of clinical standards (per the employing organization); Maintenance of good standing with the CFDI; Eight CE clock hours annually Four CE hours may be dual-purpose Four CE hours must be from CFDI-approved courses.
